Values-Based Education for Families and Schools

Target audience

Parents of Primary Education students who wish to play a more active role in their children’s values education and strengthen the connection between what children learn at school and what they experience at home.

The course is also aimed at teachers at Primary Education level, school counsellors, educational psychologists, support teachers, social educators, adult educators, family educators, school leaders, parent association representatives, mentors and professionals working with children, families or school communities.

This course is especially suitable for families and educational professionals interested in promoting values-based education through practical strategies that connect school, family and community. It is also aimed at schools and organisations that wish to strengthen cooperation between teachers and families in order to support children’s personal, social and emotional development.

The course is inspired by the Erasmus+ project PAVE – Active Engagement of Parents through Values, in which Ludus Magnus participates as a project partner. It also draws on the practical experience of implementing PAVE workshops with families at Jesuitinas School in Valladolid, where the methodology has shown very positive results.

Duration

20 hours

Objectives

1. Understand the PAVE methodology and the role of values-based education in strengthening the relationship between school, family and community.
2. Experience practical activities to work on Love, exploring how affection, care, empathy, kindness and emotional connection can be promoted in family and school contexts.
3. Experience practical activities to work on Human Dignity and Trust/Faith, reflecting on respect, self-worth, confidence, responsibility, honesty and the way children build secure relationships with adults and peers.
4. Experience practical activities to work on Peace and Non-Violence, exploring communication, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, cooperation and respectful coexistence.
5. Reflect on the implementation of PAVE in real educational contexts, identifying useful resources, facilitation tips and practical strategies to integrate values-based activities with families, teachers and children.

Methodology

The course follows an eminently practical, active and experiential methodology based on the Erasmus+ project PAVE – Active Engagement of Parents through Values. Participants will experience the methodology from the inside, taking part in the same type of activities, reflections and dynamics that can later be implemented with families, teachers and school communities.

Each day focuses on one of the main values or workshop blocks developed within the PAVE approach. Participants will explore values not as abstract concepts, but through practical activities, guided conversations, role-playing, cooperative challenges, board game-based activities, family reflection tasks and group debriefing.

The training is designed to help participants understand how values can be reinforced through everyday situations at home and at school. Special attention is given to the connection between school and family, since PAVE promotes a coherent educational framework in which parents and teachers work together to support children’s personal, social and emotional development.

The first four days are organised around the practical experience of the PAVE workshops, focusing on values such as Love, Human Dignity, Trust/Faith, and Peace and Non-Violence. The fifth day is dedicated to evaluation, shared reflection, implementation tips and adaptation strategies, helping participants identify how to transfer the methodology to their own educational or family contexts.

As part of the cultural and social dimension of the training, participants will also enjoy a guided visit around Valladolid and, on one of the afternoons, a tapas experience to discover the city’s local gastronomy in an informal and friendly atmosphere.
