Description
GREAT – Building trust in the EU among young people with fewer opportunities is an Erasmus+ Small-scale Partnership in the field of Youth aimed at strengthening young people’s understanding of the European Union, its history, democratic values and cultural diversity. The project particularly addresses young people with fewer opportunities and seeks to encourage active citizenship, democratic engagement and critical thinking.
The project combines research, participatory activities and game-based learning. Young people and relevant stakeholders will contribute to identifying perceptions and challenges related to the EU, democracy and European values. These insights will then inform the development of an educational modern board game designed to address misinformation, promote knowledge of European history and values, and foster discussion and collaboration.
GREAT is implemented by organisations from Cyprus, Belgium and Spain. EIMBG plays a central role in the project by leading the design and development of the board game and contributing its expertise in modern board games, gamification and educational methodologies.
Results
The project will produce a set of educational and participatory results designed to remain available beyond the project lifetime. Its main outcome will be a modern educational board game for young people addressing European history, democratic values, misinformation and active citizenship. The game will be developed through a participatory process involving internal testing, external expert evaluation and pilot sessions with the target group.
GREAT will also produce a transnational research report based on desk research, surveys, focus groups and discussions with young people; dissemination and educational materials; nine democracy workshops across the partner countries; meetings with local and European stakeholders; participation in external dissemination events; and a final multiplier event in Brussels during European Youth Week 2028.
Educational materials produced within the project will be made freely available online under an open licence, supporting their future use and replication by youth organisations, educators and other stakeholders.
